I’m a year one law student and I received no first year scheme invitations (applied to 12). I don’t have much proper legal work experience other than a one week criminology internship. I do have lots of work experience - tutoring, admin assistant, research intern, english teacher, but nothing with a law firm. I’ve seen my friends get at least one and some even managed to get 6 first year schemes. When seeing that, I honestly felt really worried that this might put me behind. I know rejection is part of the process and I’m already thinking about vacation scheme applications and am incredibly determined to do better and work harder, but any advice on how to really stand out to firms (especially without any law experience) would be helpful.
