Officer or remaining a civilian
So I am currently 27 years old going to turn 28 later this year I have already taken my ASTB did OK on the OAR got around a 50 or 60 and got 7/7/7 on the flight section. I have an undergrad in finance and a masters and quantitative finance and economics with a cumulative GPA of a 3.6-3.7. I wanted to take the test again and definitely get higher scores because I know I can, but my recruiter said that I shouldn’t risk it and that my scores are good enough to be selected as a pilot. The only thing is I have not gone to MEPS because I am waiting on my new insurance from this job that I had just gotten a few weeks ago to be up and running so then I can go and get reevaluated by a psychiatrist to take off my previous diagnosis of bipolar disorder because from my research, I know that would instantly disqualify me from becoming a pilot and that’s really the main reason why I would want to join the Navy as an officer so that I could fly. I would possibly consider joining as an officer with a different role if it means that I could be stationed along the West Coast or somewhere more preferable although I do know that you are not always guaranteed the spot that you were wanting to be stationed at. I’m sure some rules are more preferred in some places around the world, but I don’t know the current situation. I was honest with my recruiter and I told him all of this and he says that I should go through with my plan and get reevaluated and bring the papers to MEPS so that then I can move on with the process. It’s been a few months since I’ve taken the test and I’ve got this job in the meantime, after searching for a long time and I have colleagues who still are unemployed, I am pretty underpaid and overqualified for this job so I know I would be making more as an officer so that’s a pro and also I am kind of ready to leave civilian life. If you have opinions or insight that would be greatly appreciated. And if there are other roles I would be able to apply for after taking the ASTB please feel free to drop your insight
