DWP investigation – confused about transfers & what they might think

Some time ago, the DWP contacted me because someone reported that I had a boyfriend (which apparently triggered all of this). Then the questions shifted to whether I had received any inheritance.

For context: I did attend a family funeral, but I am not entitled to anything at all. There’s no inheritance coming to me.

They’ve since gone through my transactions in detail. I tried to explain everything the first time, but I’m not sure it really landed.

They asked about large transfers from friends (i did explain them on statement as my own…)- i do it every month Credit card - their paypal - my cash account

Feels a bit like “poor people’s Panama Papers,” honestly…

Some of the larger amounts are from my ex-partner and my sister, and I’m not sure how those might be interpreted on their end.

I’ve also already sent them full bank statements, and they can clearly see I’m in a large overdraft (almost £20k), so it’s not like I’m sitting on hidden money.

  • Obvs the paypal situation is tragicomical
  • But i wonder how they’re likely to classify ex partner transfers - whether this could be seen as income or just informal support/repayments

what usually happens next in cases like this?

(as I am on the brink of insolvency, btw...)
