Does Professor Zhou use any questions from his previous commons? How are his finals in comparison to his commons and does he do curves, I think the average for our commons is less than 50 percent so will curves be incentivized or is it up to the professor. I'm studying for the finals and it's stressing me out
I’m taking physics 122 with Zhou right now, my first thing is that I reviewed my friends and my exam, we did the same thing and got different points for the same question, he didn’t derive and I did but he got full points. So the person who graded it I guess missed or ignored the fact he didn’t derive so when I went to my professor to ask, he said that I didn’t get full points because I didn’t derive. Is there anyone else I can go to to get the points back, it’s weird since physics department grades the exam and he deals with if they messed up and they have different standards it seems.
My second question is how does the final go, I know it’ll be cumulative but where does he usually get the questions. Is it more deriving for equations still or does he get them from the homework and slides and stuff. How should I prepare for his final exam, should I focus on deriving still or like actually going over his hw or so.
I’m a freshman second semester student at Njit and thinking about transferring to Stevens, I know they’re pretty similar besides the price and that a ton of people at Njit hate Steven’s and vice versa but I’m still on the edge. Honestly if I do transfer I’ll miss some of it but I don’t feel like I’m getting the college experience. I’m not shy, I go to clubs and I go out of my way to talk to people but still it doesn’t feel right. Some of the people here just really don’t wanna talk, others are socially awkward and I don’t really like it. People say the school is pretty academic but it feels like they divert more attention to the honors kids which I get and most of the courses being rigorous and stuff just translates to me self studying rather than being taught well.
The professors don’t seem great, they’ve got accents and they don’t teach very well at least to me. The people are closed off and have their own groups, aren’t interested in talking or I don’t share an interest with them. The internships and stuff I’ve been hearing about, I talked with a bunch of upperclassmen and they all told me it was connections or getting lucky. Most of these are true to most schools but Njit which sells itself on being rigorous and academic is a bit disappointing when it’s just them throwing hard courses and having us just self studying. Like I know a ton of people skip classes and some people aren’t cut out for engineering and stuff but like half my physics class failed and a ton of people I met are taking summer classes or classes at community college and maybe that isn’t the majority but I find it really detestable that’s happening and the school still markets itself as academic, I don’t know where the money goes but it doesn’t go to the professors, classes nor the social life.
On the other hand Stevens I’m not sure how much I’d be paying, I got into Stevens and it would’ve been 28k for four years but I thought it to be too high but now I think id regret it if I didn’t go. I’m not saying grass is greener and it’d be better but I don’t enjoy Njit, sure I met a ton of cool people but you can meet a ton of cool people anywhere. I liked the energy at Stevens open house and we only live once so I’d rather not regret staying somewhere I hated. Maybe I’m not taking the money too serious, I’ve got money saved up and the ability to borrow but is the social life vs debt worth it? I’m not sure but does Njit get better eventually? Like I get the campus isn’t the main attraction and it’s the people you meet but that’s not really unique, you can say that about Europe, you can say that about my highschool. Grass might not be greener on the other side but I think I’d regret it if I didn’t try. Thoughts?
