Part-time, NYC crash pad for a long distance commuter — where would you look?
Hi all — hoping to get some help about a less common situation (but still presumably not that rare!). I'm moving out of the city to live with my partner but keeping my job in NYC. Need to be in person in NYC approximately 3 days/2 nights per week (some weeks may need an additional day, some weeks don't have to be there at all). I'm trying to find a part-time, no frills place to crash those nights - and given that it's for 8-10 nights a month the standard 12-month-lease + first/last/security setup doesn't really make sense.
**What I'm looking for:**
- Furnished, ideally
- Ideally < ~$1,100/month - which is much lower than a standard sublet but reflects that it's only a few nights per week that I will be around
- Locations are flexible but work is in Upper Manhattan so anywhere I can get to that on public transit - can do most places along the 1 or A lines
- Ideally flexible terms — month-to-month, 3-month minimums, or pay-per-night all on the table
- No big deposit if at all possible
- Lease start ~September 2026
**What I've already looked at:**
- Co-living spots like SharedEasy, June Homes
- SpareRoom and Listings Project for furnished sublets
**What I'd love your help with:**
- Specific places: Anyone have a co-living spot, sublet, building, or extended-stay hotel up there they'd recommend (or warn me about)?
- Other places to look: Websites, FB groups, neighborhood-specific listservs, Craigslist, anything I'm missing? Especially curious if there's a good way to find roommates who'd actually *want* a "Mon–Thu only" tenant (seems like it should be a feature, not a bug).
- Strategy advice: For those who've done the part-time NYC thing, did you go with a permanent room you barely use, or pay-per-night? Any regrets either way?
Thanks in advance!!!
