Hello all! I am creating a character for a dnd campaign and I’d like to ensure historical accuracy in my depiction of her. I’ve tried my best to do some research myself, but I’m having a hard time digesting the information or finding clear answers. My character is the daughter of an Egyptian Nomarch, she’s a bit spoiled and she has a unique ability that the people around her interpret as spiritual.
Here are my questions:
- When was the peak time of Nomarch power in Egypt? From what I can tell it’s at the very end of the Old Kingdom around 2100-2000s BCE. Is this accurate?
- Obviously, people at the time didn’t use “2000 something BCE” to describe their year. What Egyptian year would my character use to describe the era that she is from?
- What was the prevalence of women in religious practices?
- What were the prevalence of women in general in the society at the time? What would be expected of my character as a woman?
- Also, what would be expected of my character as the daughter of a Nomarch?
- How would other’s perception of her spiritual abilities change the way in which people would regard her, would the expeditions she would be under be different?
Any bonus information that could help contextualize my character would also be amazing.
As some bonuses: Are there any good websites or blogs I can visit to look at contemporaneous clothing that she would have worn from the time period? Also if you have any name suggestions I am all ears :)
Thank you!
