We have a shift that has been at our store for a few years. She’s a morning shift that usually always opens. Every morning when I come in (I’m usually 5-6:30 morning shifts) there is two people still doing set up and back up while they are in the back doing a pull. Every time you ask her for help, she says she’s busy and does nothing to help. Every day they are shift, the morning is hectic and there is no communication between us. You ask where your place is and they get frustrated. They are usually racing around, stressing everyone on the floor out while they do nothing. It’s like they cause panic on the floor to then just go sit in the back and do nothing. When she is on the floor, she does everything but what you ask her to do. You ask her to bag a DoorDash. She puts a label sticker on it then leaves. She’ll put a lid on one cup and then leaves. It’s insane. Countless times, I and my coworkers have come to the back to grab supplies (the shift puts herself on cs but never gets milks, cups, lids, etc) they she is in the back, talking about us, or on her phone.

We’ve talked to our manager countless times about this behavior and it always gets brushed off because “she’s trying her best”. But I’m getting tired of that excuse. I understand we all have bad days, but when you are a shift, your job is to have structure and support. Could any shifts give insight, or any baristas in the same situation.
