I catch a fair number of pike in my area, and I usually grab them from behind the head to pick up and remove the hook. From seeing others, it looks like the easier way is to grab underneath the gill plate. But I haven’t worked up the guts to do this yet. I had a bloody incident where I got bit, and that has creeped me out.

So please reassure me that I won’t be reaching into a pit of razor blades and I’ll keep all of my fingers the first time I try this lol.

I’ve come to look forward to the song of the white throated sparrow as one of the things that makes BWCA unique. We’ve all heard it, and if you don’t think you have, a quick You Tube search and you’ll say “oh yeah!”

Anyway, I’m mentioning this here because this group will hopefully appreciate how odd it was for me to hear this song while walking on a path on Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. A little online searching later suggested this was a likely male on his way up north, singing his heart out to maybe catch a little lovin’ along the way 😍

I have a trip in early June and things like this make me more and more excited and nostalgic for the trip. Thanks for reading through my random observations.
