New scape, what’s the white stuff?

Just started a new scape about 5 days ago, tank is already seeded as I had a secondary filter running in another tank which I used here, used some aqua soil from that tank as well as water.

I’ve only ever had one other tank and never used spider wood.

What is the white stuff forming on the wood?

I’d also like advice on elephant rock, I see white lines in the rock and apparently that might be calcium carbonate which affects your water parameters? If so then how so?

Lastly any tips on keeping these plants alive, bought them emerged and last time most of my plants melted and turned to mush.
