RTX 3090 Failed Suddenly - Friend Says VRAM Chip Dead? Looking for advice.

One day I woke up, booted my PC, but it didn't start. At first, I suspected a RAM issue. Resetting the BIOS didn't help, but switching my RTX 3090 to a different GPU proved that the motherboard, CPU, and other components are fine.

I took both the card and the whole system to a friend who runs a local PC shop. After some diagnostics, he told me the VRAM block is likely dead or there's an issue with a chip on the board.

I work personally with AI (Image Generation and local LLMs), so I'm struggling to understand what could cause this. It feels very random. I've checked my diagnostic tools, but they don't give concrete answers about why it fails or how to prevent it.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Is there any known issue with 3090 VRAM specifically under AI workloads?

My Specs:

  • Motherboard: MCI B450M Bazooka V2
  • RAM: 64GB Ballistix
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (8-core)
  • GPU: MSI RTX 3090
  • PSU: UltraDurable Gold UD750GM

Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks!
