I read it in the 80’s but it could be older. A girl has a horse, I think named Pat, that gets caught in barbed wire during a storm at the beginning and the girl gets him out of it. They also go to a horse show and one horse (not Pat) freaks out on one of the jumps. The family gets a pony that Pat loves. For some reason, the pony is sold, and the girl has to track down the buyer. At the end, they find two ponies that look the same, so they take both to the farm and the original pony comes out to meet Pat.
