Hi all,

I (former elite runner) got a left hip scope 8 months ago after experiencing debilitating bilateral hip/groin pain (it just happened while l was sitting at my desk, could not walk 500m without stopping and never left me alone since ).

Surgeon who made the scope said l did not have dysplasia, and that FAI surgery (cam impingement removal and labral repair) would solve my hip issues . Well it did not (l now have less burning groin pain at rest/moving but still catching, severe low back/hip flexor tightness and instability feeling when weight bearing) and l had to deal with awful CRPS for several months

I got new X-rays and of course the radiologist says l have dysplasia though it's not that severe. Updated MRIs with contrast showed osteophytes and focal grade 4 cartilage damage on both hips.

I did some rehab and could return to distance walking, light jogging/running, cycling, but l am never pain free (I always feel something in my hip/groin even at rest and if l overdo it, then l'll pay for it for days.

I am to see a PAO/THR surgeon in one month from now and will also go back to my scope/THR surgeon.

I have been in constant hip agony for more than one year and l really don't want to get another useless hip preservation surgery. On the other hand l know it won't get better and have to face the hard truth : once hip dysplasia starts causing constant pain, no amount of exercising, rest, shots, PT, chiropractor, RFA, or meds will make you pain free.

List of questions :

- How much did you hurt after PAO ?

- l live alone at the third floor without any elevator and won't have any help, so should l go to a rehab facility until l get off crutches ?

- Where were your main pain areas/level with hip dysplasia ?

- Did you feel unstable while walking ?

- If you had no associated arthritis, did you still have catching/locking up ?

- Were you in pain even at rest and was sitting very uncomfortable ?

- Could you still do some sport before PAO ?

- Why not just wait for THR ?

- ls it risky to get PAO once you have some cartilage damage ?

- Is high level running over with hip dysplasia, even after correction ?

.
