Big Question : Animation College student here, I need help with stylising my blender scene! (Cycles)

Hey there!

I am in my 3rd year of studying Animation-film. As of right now, I am preparing for my master project. For it I will present my own short-film! Now the thing is, I want my film to be very depressing!

And part of that is going to be thanks to the visual style, which will also be very depressing oriented. All my backgrounds will be made in blender using cycles! Now to be frank, I have never been that good at blender but I really have been giving it my all for this project.

I want it so that all my shadows that are cast on objects look very grainy (think of it as a depressing ash texture, but that is not really important right now). You can find a couple of mock-ups made in photoshop of what I have in mind.

To me, it looks very doable but I just havent been able to get close at all. Most tutorials don't lead me to where I want to go, or they just start in EEVEE which sadly is not an option for me.

Can anyone help me with this? I will be extremely grateful for any and all help.

TLDR : need grainy shading/shadows in my cycles blender file.

Thank you in advance!
