I had a wonderful weekend. In 2007 I had the pleasure of traveling SA for 6 months and again for 1 month in 2009. On that first trip I met 2 people i connected with and we stayed in touch throughout the years until suddenly we realised the last meet was 11 years ago.
So I’m very nostalgic now because talking about all our memories and dusting off the old photo books and such was lovely. I saw a post the other day here where someone asked why South Africans are so friendly and I can absolutely relate. When I went I was 18, I had never been away by myself before or even on a plane and spoke a little bit English. I met so many other tourists as you do but so many locals as well that went out of their way connecting with me, not until I was older did I understand it’s not like that everywhere. Someone drove me all around Durban for a day showing me around, I was invited to a neighbourhood braai at someone’s house and so on.
I hope to visit when the next lion’s tour is as husband is a big rugby fan so he can finally have his own South Africa stories rather than only listening to mine.
