First of all, sorry for communicating in English if this is a Spanish thread.
I’m a 21 yo nomad who has explored a few countries in the Americas, like Mexico and Colombia, and in Europe, like France and Spain. Recently, I decided to settle down for a month or two in Bogota since it’s my first time here—and honestly, I find the atmosphere quite particular.
I understand that it’s the capital and that people tend to be more stressed, so they’re not necessarily looking to entertain me. Still, I find it really difficult to socialize here. Having been to cities like Mexico City, Paris, or even Barcelona, I feel like it’s much harder to integrate in Bogota.
For context, I’m also Black and somewhat queer, so I’ve been trying to go to clubs and events. But I almost always end up leaving alone, whereas in other cities I’ve visited, I would usually leave having met people.
I’m not sure whether people in Bogota or Colombia in general are less Black-friendly, which wouldn’t really make sense considering a city like Cartagena exists.
Or maybe it’s because I don’t speak the best Spanish, although I’m really trying to learn. A few Uber drivers I’ve talked to have actually said my level is pretty good for a foreigner.
A small note as well : coming from North America (Canada), I feel like I connect much more easily with Mexicans.
What do you think ?
