Input on a project
Edit: I’m on mobile as I’m on a trip currently, so there’s unfortunately nothing I can do about the placement of the image.
Forgive me if this is tagged wrong—I couldn’t figure out if this should go under the art flair, so I played it safe.
I’m not the first person to have this idea, and I certainly won’t be the last. However, considering that we’re coming up on the 25th anniversary, I’ve been planning a digital art project that will be a calligram of some of the rubble from the collapse of the Twin Towers using the names of victims—it will include all four crashes, not just the towers, with different colors used for the different sites or whether someone was a first responder. I have a few things I want input on, though:
- One thing I want to do is “gild” names of people who specifically are known to have been part of rescue efforts, both civilian and first responders. Obviously, I have the first responders’ memorials, but I’m also trying to gather names of civilians who contributed and I would love any suggestions and their stories so I can put that alongside the piece. Currently, I have:
- Frank De Martini, Carlos De Costa, Pablo Ortiz, and Pete Negron
- Welles Crowther
- Cyril “Rick” Rescorla, Wesley Mercer, Jorge Velasquez, and Godwin Forde
- Tom Burnett, Todd Beamer, Mark Bingham, Jeremy Glick, and the other passengers of Flight 93
- FNYD Members and other first responders
- For the background, I want to do something similar to this piece from the 9/11 Memorial Museum: https://www.911memorial.org/connect/blog/trying-remember-color-sky-september-morning
Tying back to #1, I could potentially do those names in a blue gradient, do squares of different shades of blue in a direct reference to the piece (maybe trying to add one for each victim of 9/11 related illnesses but that sounds a bit overwhelming), a solid/gradient blue, or just keep it gray.
- Is there anything else you think I should add? Think additional figures, quotes, anything.
I appreciate you taking your time to read this and hope this is an alright post! I’ve been planning this for months and just finally got a little traffic-jammed in my brain on all the ideas.
