Because the economy is in a tough spot right now, I could use stories from people who have endured hardship through economic downturn. I am aware of Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath. Thanks!

Really enjoying Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar, and find the protagonist very relatable as I am currently struggling with mental health issues in my early 20s. I have My Year of Rest and Relaxation, but haven't read it yet. Any more books about young women struggling with mental health issues/work/sex/school, especially if they are very frank and realistic? Looking for messy girls to relate to. Bonus points for high literary quality.
