Hi all, the most recent update to my Apple TV 4K 1st Gen appears to have caused a very strange issue.
Essentially, whenever I power down my ATV, it switches off the TV and Soundbar, but then about 5-30 seconds later, the soundbar ALWAYS turns back on. It will stay on until the soundbars idle switch off time occurs. TV and Apple TV remain in standby. TV and Soundbar are both Sony if it matters.
I have tested the behaviour of the TV with other media devices connected (on the same cable, into the same HDMI port on the TV) and this never happens. So I’m inclined to think it’s some sort of HDMI-CEC bug with the Apple TV as of the most recent update.
One other odd regression I’ve spotted is sometimes when I open the Remotes and Devices settings, the Apple TV seems unsure about what what volume control modes are available as often that option is blank and opening it results in only the “Learn new device” option rather than the usual of Auto/HDMI/IR/etc.
This makes me wonder if the Apple TV, upon the TV going to sleep, is detecting the HDMI connection going idle and deciding to test out the IR option instead? I guess this could wake the soundbar in isolation?
I have had 4 years of flawless performance so the fact that this is happening now is quite frustrating. I’ve reset everything, restored all devices back to factory, and seen no improvement.
I wonder if anyone has any suggestions on what I could try next?
