ATO HR assessment centre advice

Hi everyone,

I got an email this morning that I progressed to the next stage for the Australian government HR graduate program.

It’s an assessment centre involving a presentation and a behavioural interview, with the presentation topic provided to me an hour before the meeting.

I have never done an assessment centre before so I’m very nervous. I don’t really know what to expect. I have a few questions, I’d appreciate it if anyone who has done this before or at least has any tips would share any advice with me.

- What can I expect from the presentation? Will one hour really be enough for the topic they want us to discuss? Will the number of slides needed be listed? And how long we need to speak for?

- Will there be multiple people in the meeting/will it be a panel interview?

- Will the interviewers ask me questions pertaining to the topic and presentation afterwards? Or will we move onto the behavioural interview part with generic interview questions relating to the role?

Thank you! 🙏

Hi everyone, I just finished the assessment and am wondering if I'm the only one who feels this way.

Did anyone else find that the task felt way too heavy to complete in 40 minutes? Answering four emails within that time frame, on top of sifting through all the provided websites and soaking in the information, just felt a bit unrealistic. I wasn't able to complete the assessment due to the time limit, so I'm worried that this will affect my application process. Just feeling a bit bummed :(
