SOWP and Spouse Sponsorship revocation : What my lawyer told me
Hi everyone,
I am currently doing an outland spouse sponsorship in QC (submitted in Nov 25) and waiting for my SOWP (Landed in Canada in Jan 26, applied end of Jan 26).
My common-law spouse and I have been in a rocky situation since we arrived, and it seems that our relationship might come to an end soon. I talked with an immigration lawyer about it, and here is what they told me.
In the event that the spouse sponsorship is cancelled after the SOWP is granted, there will be no cancellation of the WP as long as the relationship wasn't misrepresented for immigration purposes. However, if I was to leave the country, there would be a pretty high chance that I would not be granted access to Canada and my WP would be revoked has the "basis" of the WP no longer exists.
I told my lawyer that I read multiple testimonies of people who got their WP revoked after a sponsorship cancellation, and she told me that in 30 years of experience she never saw anything like this happen.
Has anyone else had a similar experience or heard differently from their counsel?
Just trying to help anyone else in this stressful position.
