I was recently approached about a product design role that seems like a strong fit. The company is legit and they came to me rather than the other way around, which felt like a good sign. The initial screening went really well and I've been invited to the next round.

Here's where I'm a bit confused: based on their public hiring info, this stage could involve a panel interview or some kind of assignment. But I've been told it'll just be a conversation with the hiring manager about the role and my background. When I asked what to prepare, I was basically told "nothing, just be yourself." The recruiter also hasn't been able to answer more detailed questions about the process, which is adding to the uncertainty. They did say that they don't do take home tasks, and apparently the final round is meeting the wider team.

This is my first proper design interview and I've been gearing up for portfolio presentations, take-home tasks, whiteboard exercises — the works. But this process seems... surprisingly informal? I'm sure there'll be behavioural questions, but I genuinely can't tell if that's all it is or if I should be preparing for something more structured.

Has anyone had a similar experience? How did it play out?
