Hey folks! I just wanted to share my latest cactus project. This solarium is my favorite part of the nearly 100-year-old house we bought 10 years ago. I've tried food like basil and tomatoes since it's attached to our kitchen/dining room, and filled it with catnip and cat grass for our cats.
Last week, while I was moving my collection out of their winter dwelling, my wife said "I bet your cacti would love it in there!" So I jumped on the opportunity and planted some of my favorites.
I am in Western NC, so it gets pretty cold here in the winters. I have had neglected houseplants survive the winter in here though. I will be looking into a heater just in case.
The soil seems perfect for cacti, very sandy and fast draining. I have a brugmansia, some white sage, rosemary, pereskiopsis and poppies mixed in currently, I'll be researching other companion plants to make this resemble a natural environment.
