I need some advice regarding an Avios redemption on Qatar Airways.
I was looking at flying business class from London to Lahore, and the reward flight required 55,000 Avios + taxes/fees.
There was a 40% Avios bonus, so I bought 56,000 Avios for £719, thinking it would save me a lot compared to paying cash. Normally, the business class fare for this route is around £1,250, so I thought this was a great deal.
However, when I got to checkout, the taxes and fees were £440.89, which made me question whether it was worth it at all, since my total cost would be around £1,160 (£719 for Avios + £440 taxes).
What confused me even more is that these are last-minute flights, and the current cash price is actually around £3,030, even though the usual fare is much lower.
So now I’m wondering:
Is this actually a good redemption because I’m comparing it to the current last-minute £3,030 fare, or is it still not worth it because the “normal” fare is usually around £1,250?
I already have the 56,000 Avios now, so I just want to make sure I use them in the best possible way and don’t waste them.
Would you book this, or save the Avios for something better?
