I have been working with a mother and daughter team for about two years. I feel it’s important to say I have been doing hair since 96. I am paid by the hour plus tips. Recently they were hiring a new stylist and he came in and immediately started to discuss his salary and it was more than I make. I was obviously upset about it and when I asked my manager she said he had more experience than I did. Ok. I’ll accept that but he didn’t stay however they had a copy of his license and he got his license in 2022. I don’t think years have a lot to do with doing hair but I feel like I was just getting gaslit about this and it feels like a slap in the face. This past week I had been out bc I was sick so they both had to do some of the people on my book. The receptionist told me that the owner was going on and on talking about my haircuts and how she had to fix them in front of clients. I asked her daughter and of course she acted like she never heard that at all and basically dismissed me and anything to do with that. Thing is I am fairly certain that she did exactly what was said and I’m just not sure if I’m being overly sensitive about things or what bc it feels like it’s something all the time. I still did not get a raise btw and I just feel like I’m being manipulated and I can not shake this feeling. It has to be a spotlight on the owner at all times and she can have that I don’t need praise from everyone all the time but it doesn’t make sense for her to talk bad about me and reschedule my clients on her book when I work there. I’m representing her salon so doesn’t it really just make her look bad? I don’t know. This is a high end salon I’m charging high end prices and I get paid $17 a hour and I don’t feel like anything is in my favor. I do anywhere from 1500-2500 in services a week. I don’t think it averages out at all. I just need some advice feedback something bc I feel like I’m losing my mind
