Drawings from memory might be stunting my growth?

So I've been drawing for fun for years now, and because I'm drawing for leisure I don't bother looking up references or tutorials. I just draw what feels right. (it could also be that I hate the feeling of comparing my art to my reference and seeing differences)

I believe that because of this, my drawings aren't improving especially recently. there are small changes but idk if that's an improvement or an art style change. I feel like I have bad fundamentals, especially in anatomy, color and background.

Will drawing from reference help with this? I want to improve my art. Plus I'm also unsure about how to study color from references. I feel sad because the amount of time spent on drawing doesn't reflect on my skills at all. Does drawing from memory hurt my skills?

Could I please get some advice..?

My mom says it doesn't have enough detail / looks very poorly drawn. Any advice?
