If you modify a scooter to run at higher speeds for private use, would a simple reset be enough to make it fully compliant for street use again?

Or can software used in some videos (e.g. Scooter Hacking Utility) reliably revert it back to stock if needed — and is this effectively a firmware flash or something else?

Does it leave any traces in the controller or firmware after reverting to normal, which could affect legal use on public roads? This is especially important given the strict laws in Germany.

For the Xiaomi Scooter 5, I’ve heard about button combinations affecting speed, while for the Navee GT3 Pro people mention hardware changes, such as cutting a wire.
Is there a non-hardware, reversible method for the GT3 Pro — and is it truly reversible without leaving lasting traces?

Are there any downsides after using such modifications, for example issues with future firmware updates?

I’m buying a new scooter today. Both are basically the same price (±50€), the Xiamo Scooter 5 and the Navee GT3 pro.

From what I know:

  • Navee GT3 pro has a bit more power and slightly more range
  • Xiaomi is more “proven”

My use case:

  • Some smaller mountains here (~15% incline)
  • ~63 kg rider weight
  • Both should handle it, but I’d prefer some reserve for steeper hills
  • Good durability and low maintenance are important to me

Specs (rough):

  • Xiaomi Scooter 5: ~350W nominal / ~700–1000W peak
  • Navee: ~500W nominal / up to ~1000W peak

Questions:

  • Is there actually a noticeable difference between them?
  • Which one would you trust more long-term?
  • Are Xiaomi’s numbers just more “honest”?
  • Which one fits my use case better?

Right now I’m slightly leaning towards the Xiaomi, since I trust it a bit more and the community seems bigger (I’ve owned the first Xiaomi model). Yesterday I was more into the Navee because of the extra power, but I’m not sure if it really matters.

I’ve also looked at a few other models like the Odys Ultron i75, Ninebot E3 Pro, and Evercross EV10S MAX — if any of those (or something similar) would fit my use case significantly better overall, feel free to mention it and why.

Appreciate any input!

I built a simple way to use Notion recipes with Gemini.

It keeps everything synced into a single Google Doc, so Gemini can access and use your recipes anywhere (phone, tablet, watch, etc.) without manual copying.

I've been using it myself on a tablet in the kitchen and it makes cooking a lot easier.

Would love feedback — would you actually use something like this? What would it need to be useful for you?
