Inbreeding!
I am building quite the collection of isopods. My biggest concern in purchasing new isopods is buying in groups of 5. I know many say they can handle a high amount of inbreeding (coefficient) to start. I have heard a few comments of colony collapse just running one bin for years on end. I’m rather experienced with breeding mammals with starting out with very high inbreeding co-efficients, especially European and American lines of mice (Mus musculus). I did expend my population to lower the inbreeding co-efficient. Being I can’t track individual isopods on a realistic scale, I’d like some input from long-term breeders on how they have managed this since many have been in captivity for several years.
