Ok, it’s that time of year so get ready. I had a kid on my team who lead my team in hits, RBI’s, and fielding percentage. He carries the absolute best attitude and hustle. He is a quiet kid who literally goes to work when he crosses the line. He’s smaller and left handed and plays second and short because his glove work is great and arm is good enough. He never wows anybody but he always makes the plays.

The all star vote comes and he doesn’t make the team. Two of the other kids on the same team ,who can just hit, sometimes made the team when the smaller left handed middle infielder did not.

The dad at the vote asks the other coaches why, and he is told because he’s not committed because he did not try out for the parks select team.

Is it really frowned upon to not play on select when the kid is better than all but 2-3 on “select team” and not selected for the all star team.

My thing is the kid is deserving when he literally out played all but 3 kids in a 15 game season.

Is this why travel ball exist and why park ball is dying?
