Recently I placed a booking with VRBO for 2 nights totalling $400. The listing said non-refundable. I was sent a link which had the registration card of the listing and it said that there would be a $500 hold placed at time of booking under the Security Deposit section. At the bottom of the registration, there was a spot for me to digitally sign acknowledging that I understood that the registration is non-refundable. Due to the amount of the deposit, I refused to sign and I asked the property owner if I did not sign, would I get my money back. I ended up not staying at that listing but I complained to the property owner as well as VRBO asking for a refund and I was repeatedly denied because the listing was non-refundable at the start, yet I didn’t know about the deposit until after I paid the $400. I understand that businesses have to have security deposit, but as an informed consumer, I feel that amount should have been disclosed prior to payment and if I refused to sign the agreement, then I should get my money back. Anyone else have this issue?
