#Your USB DAC on Android may NOT be bypassing the system mixer

Most of you probably already know this, but on Android, even when using an external USB DAC, your audio usually still goes through Android’s system audio stack/mixer by default.

This has been the case since around Android 6.0 and even before that .

That means:

  • Android often resamples audio (commonly to 48kHz)

  • System DSP/effects may still be applied

  • You may not get true bit-perfect playback

  • Your DAC isn’t always being used to its full potential

A lot of people assume plugging in a DAC automatically bypasses Android processing — it usually doesn’t.

#The Solution

Use apps that include their own USB audio driver and bypass Android’s default mixer/audio path.

#Good options:

  • HiBy Music (Free)

Excellent for local FLAC files and includes a built-in TIDAL login for bit-perfect streaming.

  • USB Audio Player PRO / UAPP (Paid)

Basically the gold standard for Android USB audio. Supports bit-perfect playback and direct USB DAC access.

#The Catch: Streaming apps

These apps do NOT automatically make the official apps like Apple Music lossless

###Apple Music

Apple Music generally does not bypass the Android mixer on its own.

UAPP has an experimental “System Audio” feature that attempts to route other apps through its driver, but results are inconsistent and usually do not provide true automatic sample-rate switching for Apple Music.

###TIDAL

To get proper bit-perfect playback, you need to log into your TIDAL account inside HiBy .

Using the official TIDAL app can still subject your audio to Android’s resampling/mixer.

###Spotify

They did support USB DAC but limit it to a sampling rate of 48Khz 16 bits. Good enough

for most uses.Idk about it now i havet used recently so idk but it used be a feature few years back.

#Why It Matters

This becomes more noticeable with:

  • FLAC / lossless files

  • TIDAL HiFi / Qobuz

  • High-end IEMs or headphones

  • External dongle DACs

For people spending money on DACs/IEMs and wondering why Android sometimes sounds "off" or different compared to PC playback — this is one of the biggest reasons.

##Quick Tips

  • Local files:Both HiBy and UAPP work great for FLAC/DSD stored on your phone.

  • TIDAL users:

Use TIDAL through UAPP or HiBy instead of the official app for best results.

  • Apple Music users:

On most standard Android phones, your audio is likely still being resampled to 48kHz unless you use a customized Android implementation/DAP from brands like FiiO or iBasso.Moon drop phone also does the same thing.

Feel free to correct/add more info if you know more about Android audio internals. This what i understood from my time in audio journey

With a bit of PEQ, they can sound very smooth, not gonna lie. Since I mostly prefer a slightly neutral tuning, there’s still a bit to be desired out of the box, but they’re a good budget pair. For me, they’re better than the SG2 in terms of soundstage and not too warm (though it has bass not too much nit too little )and closer to the 7Hz Eula, though not on par with sets like the Zenith (of course lol) or Kefine Delci. As usual, take my words with a grain of salt.

PS: Use a QDC connector ,I recommend the QKZ T1. I personally don’t like QDC connectors, so I just use and store them carefully, but it’s better to get a good one since the Kunten doesn’t have a screwed-down QDC connector. And as you know from reviews, the build quality is kinda bad, as usual.
