My tree is 11' tall, it can get taller, I just dont allow to get past that height, and Its around 14' wide.
Ive always heard people say that figs only grow on new growth, or the majority of them do.
I use organza bags to protect my figs from local pests, mainly birds, they dont like those bags, idk why 💁🏻♂️
Anyways, if I were to put a percentage number as to where the figs this year are growing, I'll say 45% are growing in last year's growth and the other 55% are in this year's new growth. The figs can get bigger than a half a dollar coin, they split like crazy when ripe. So far ive used over 750 organza bags. I need to buy more.
I would like to know. What kind of fig tree do I have?
Mainly because of my Freezing/growing zone (8).
I cover my tree every year, ive gotten used to it, but its still not a fun process. I cover it, just to play it safe.
I DONT PRUNE my tree, mainly because I just dont know how to do it properly, and I fear I'll kill it or that ill ruin its 1,000+++ figs a year production.
I would like to know what type of fig tree it is, so I can leave it uncovered during winter if its tolerant to the cold. (it can sometimes get as low as (14°), but usually its between 16°-22°, but thats just for a few days, once or twice each month, during winter.
The larger leaves can grow to 11-15" long, and 11"+ wide.
Ive used an identifier app/service before. Some have stated that its a "Common fig" , that gave me more head scratches than answers, also my tree is 8+ years old.
