I was contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn. Her profile looked real and had been active for many years, but I believe it was hacked. She offered me a job opportunity that actually matched my career profile very well. The offer was a 40% higher fixed salary plus aggressive variable pay.

The process seemed legitimate. There were real test questions and multiple steps. Then came the part where they asked me to record a short video (like many authentic recruitment process do). When I tried to record, a message appeared saying my camera driver was outdated. It gave me instructions to copy and paste a command into my terminal to "fix" the issue.

That command obviously installs malware and there was a Linux, macOS and Windows version of the command.

I did not run the command because I recognized it as a scam at that point.

If any job asks you to run a command in your terminal, stop. No real company will ever ask you to do that. This scam is well elaborated and uses a hacked real LinkedIn profile to look trustworthy.

Stay safe.
