Healing yourself
I’ve been in a good flare the last 3 weeks and was hospitalized for the last week. Finally getting out and ready to heal myself. I was in remission for 6 years prior. The flare doesn’t come as a surprise to me, as over the last year I’ve made some life changes that took a toll. Living in a city I don’t like and doing a job I quite despise vs my prior situation of being by the beach and doing more of what brought me peace. I’ve ignored so much of my spark i lost.
Now for the healing part - I’m hoping to start tremfya, but that’s not why I am posting. I wanted to make a thread to discuss the alternative ways and therapies in which everyone has found important for their inner healing journey. Would love to hear others thoughts.
- Diet - I really believe so much of our food system in the US is full of poison for folks like us with UC. Especially in these hospitals wheee you can’t get a healthy thing for your life. While many people’s genomes can tolerate it, a body with UC and a potential to flare will react in the most sensitive ways. I want to start eating simply for my first week out. Ground beef, eggs, beef liver, olive oil, salt, and maybe small amounts of butter. I’ve found many folks with UC remission through this animal based diet.
- Nature - I believe nature and your environment plays a huge role in our healing. What we see with our eyes we digest with our brain, similar to how what we eat gets digested within our stomach organs. Man and nature have always been connected, and I want to get back to that on a regular basis every day.
- Psychedelics - I know psychedelic therapy is a very sensitive subject for some, but it seems so promising. If anyone has any experience on doing this during flares where your stomach may be overly sensitive, I appreciate your input. Whether it be psylocibin, LSD, ketamine, etc. I really think I need to heal my brain to heal my UC, as the correlation between the flare and my life are just too apparent. Psychedelic therapy can be a great way to increase connectivity between parts of the brain that need rewiring. It’s a scary thought to think we have more control over this disease than we give credit for, but it can also be very empowering. The gut-brain axis is real.
- What else? - let me know what else you think fits into this category of thinking in healing. Exercise also comes to mind, as well as meditation. Even philosophy. There are no wrong answers here, so please share your experiences.
Hope everyone with this disease is giving themselves the grace to heal and knows that there is more that they can do than rely on a biologic or a medicine from a Dr to heal everything for you. Mahalo all 🤙🏼
