Looking for a mentor in engineering
Hi I'm 28m still early on my career and I'm torn between systems engineering and software engineering. Looking for guidance. I'm looking to become an expert and eventually own my own company.

I'm in tutorial hell atm. I've learnt Python on different platforms although this time seems different. Currently learning on boot.dev. what are some basic projects I can do to start improving my software engineering skills and problem solving. I've followed the freecodecamp Python projects and learnt nothing. Please any ideas would be welcome.
I've always was curious about programming and started learning it after I went to university. I've done so many courses on Python syntax but never really understood how to build things. I'm currently learning via Boot.dev and am really enjoying it and I'm actually building projects. But I want to know if it's realistic to see if I can land a job in software engineering at somewhere like microsoft. I've been out of work for a year and have interviews lined up as a systems engineer but my heart is at software engineering. I don't mind putting in the work and I don't mind how long it takes preferably within the next 5 years tho. If I build projects will that be enough to get me a job as a software engineer
What is IBM DOORS is it easy to learn. If I lie on my Cv and say I know it will I get caught out.
