Did I make a mistake choosing UC Merced?
I just committed as class of 2030 I’m an applied mathematics major. I mostly chose uc Merced for financial reasons. I also think Yosemite is beautiful and I used to visit it all the time when I was younger so being close to it is definitely a huge plus. Im really excited about the access to research opportunities and the better connections I can make with professors. When I chose Merced I felt really excited and hopeful, but lately I’ve been feeling doubtful about my choice.
I’m super social and friendly, I love rock climbing, skating and meeting new people and I thrive in a competitive/big social environment (football games, parties, seeing a new person every day ect) I’ve been hearing that Merced is more low-key, with a few rude ppl even saying that uc Merced is a “dead campus” and everyone their is miserable.
Before I committed I knew that Merced was a little isolated and a bit of a newer UC. I figured it would be ok since I always seem to find good freinds regardless of where I am and I love to geek out about math. But now I’m feeling nervous and I’m wondering if any current students could chime in (maybe any applied math majors to??) about the social scene and the general feeling you have about campus life + the academics.
Ps I heard that the dining hall food was really bad (WORMS IN THE VEGGIES???😭) but Thoes posts were a little old. Is it any better now?
