Jumped on this deal within 20min today, got there and he threw in the 16” chainsaw free with it all😱

For starters, I know this is going to look stupid to the majority of you. But I have no laser level experience. I’m attempting to begin studying and trying to get my license to do PERC tests and design septic systems for my state. Below is the issue I’m having. I’ve watched every YouTube video I can find but I just cannot figure out how I’m supposed to use the benchmark I shoot. Can any installers/designers help me out? Bonus points if I can message you and bug you with all my other stupid questions after this.
