I’m looking for horror book recommendations, but not the typical gore/shock horror.

I recently finished Brother and it was… fine, but it didn’t really hit what I’m looking for. Gore and brutality don’t really scare me, I would say that i am more affected by atmosphere and that constant feeling that something is off.

everything feels off the entire time, quiet, psychological, “something isn’t right here” vibe is exactly what I want

Important: I can’t handle animal abuse at all, so please avoid recommending anything with that.
