Cat peeing outside of the litter box (but only sometimes)
My 16 year old cat has become a biological terrorist.
He has peed on area rugs, my bed, the couch, and the floor beside his litter box. He poops in the hallway. But only sometimes... I'd say pooping once every couple of days and peeing every few days. He uses the boxes otherwise.
He is diabetic and arthritic. However, I've been to the vet multiple times in the last few months and he's gotten a total clean bill of health. His fructose/glucose levels are perfect and he gets a monthly arthritis shot. He also still jumps up and down from beds/couch and use the stairs without difficulty. He had bad teeth, but had surgery a few weeks ago and is eating and drinking fine.
There is a litter box on both floors. I clean them twice a day. He only has to step into one, and while it is a high-ish step, it's smaller than the regular stairs he uses dozens of times a day.
I am going insane. Enzyme cleaners, vet bills, laundry, and the constant stress of either trying to find the pee or clean the pee are making me feel like I'm always dealing with this. Last night, I rolled over in the middle of the night and my ankle landed in a puddle. And this is while he was snuggled up with me!
Everywhere I look, the advice is always to do what I've mostly already done. So I'm hoping someone has another answer. He's healthy and strictly indoor, so he could live another five years easily and honestly, I cannot take five more years of this. Any ideas?
