Next Gen Paddle Design Finalized - First Full Prototype in Flight
Since my last post, where I shared my plans to design a new paddle the world has never yet seen - new core architecture, new material for the chassis - I've refined the design even more and have taken steps to order parts (core + chassis + perimeter foam + custom butt cap) for my first prototype. The response I received from the first post strengthened my resolve to actually take a stab at this. The challenge is these designs are completely new; starting my own brand will be a steeper hill to climb than other paddle companies who are adopting existing recipes (floating foam core) and aren't innovating on their own. But I'm betting on my own expertise in materials science and I think it's worthwhile to make a prototype and see how it plays. If folks know where to procure rigid, carbon fiber sheets that can be CNC'd to shape, let me know. I'm looking for custom stack sequences of unidirectional CF, but it can also be generic 45/-45/90 or 0/90/0 sequences. Once I have the hitting surfaces, putting it all together should only take one month at most.
I fully am aware that sharing a screenshot of the full 3d model is risky - but there's a lot more to the IP than what's shown.
