I’ve gardened with native plants for about 5 years now and find it so rewarding! One of my favorite things to do is make seasonal bouquets from my garden — typically with flowers that flopped due to heavy rains or plants that are overhanging walkways. Everything in these arrangements is native to my area (SWPA, zone 6B) except the lilac — one of a handful of non-natives I chose to keep when I made the switch.

Plants pictured are:

Aquilegia canadensis (red columbine)

Baptisia australis (blue false indigo)

Anemone canadensis (Canada anemone)

Zizia aurea (golden Alexander)

Erigeron philadelphicus (Philadelphia fleabane)

I also threw in a bit of Pycnanthemum virginianum (Virginia mountain mint) for its texture and scent and Carex bicknellii (copper-shouldered oval sedge).

I’d love to see your combinations and hear about natives you find to work well as cut flowers!
