I recently lost my job a few months back. Let’s say I use the GI bill/VRE this fall to go back to school, along with FAFSA. I qualify for about 12k in fafsa direct loans(and hopefully some pell grant after the school re calculates my new income(or lack there of now)). I understand that the 12k goes directly to the school first, but the GI bill should cover 100% of it. So the 12k should come back to me as a refund.

Is the 12k essentially “free money” that I can use to cover living expenses and surviving during school since TPD can discharge them after I’m done with school? Is this all legal?

I want to do this all legally without feeling weird about it. Thank you in advance!

I have been 100% p&t for 6 years now, here are all of my disabilities:
10% rating for right femoral radiculopathy
10% rating for right ankle tendonitis
30% rating for chronic sinusitis
10% rating for left knee strain
20% rating for left shoulder strain
20% rating for lumbosacral strain
10% rating for left ankle tendonitis
10% rating for right knee strain
20% rating for cervical strain
10% rating for right wrist chronic sprain
30% rating for bilateral pes planus
30% rating for adjustment disorder with mixed anxiety and depressed mood
10% rating for tinnitus
(I’ve excluded 0% ratings)

Every single VA disability calculator i’ve used say the same thing, 90% total disability including bilateral factor. I think the actual number was 92.4% rounded down to 90%.

Is this something I should worry about or did the VA do some math differently on their end?
Someone please shed some light.

EDIT:
THIS WAS FIGURED OUT IN THE COMMENTS. MY 100% IS SAFE. THANK YOU ALL
