Short background - I had a housefire a year ago (today, actually). Cause was electrical shortage in garage wall. Since then I've been dealing with recovery. Electricians were out in late fall to replace the circuit wires that burned and other insurance-sanctioned repairs. Paid them, now we have more things to replace as more of the house's walls are opened (chasing the smoke odor).
In all the mess, my house wasn't winterized. All my copper pipes blew. Which is why I was in the crawl removing my plumbing to replace with PEX. And the only reason I bring this up is to say I know for 100% fact there are no more copper water lines in the crawl. This is when I learned the electricians tied the service ground wire to a gas line.
Am I wrong in feeling this is not ok? Or am I just hypersensitive to the risks of electrical fire?
And out of curiosity, when the only copper is gas, what does the ground get tied to? The only other thing would be the iron drain lines. (The skinny copper line is from main gas line to gas fireplace.)
