I went out to eat with some friends and when the bill came out I offered to put my card down. When it came to the part where you put a tip, I didn’t select any of the suggested tips, which were 18%, 20% and 22%. I manually typed in what amounted to be 10% of the bill. My friends all unanimously agreed that I was an asshole for only tipping 10% but none of them suggested to change it to a higher percentage. I think they all appreciated saving some money because the bill was expensive but I want to know if tipping 10% is an asshole thing to do.
Some extra information that I think would be helpful is that we didn’t make any difficult requests, just placed our orders they brought out the food and we ate and left. Very simple and easy interaction and we took maybe 40 mins max.
