Quick background on me; I have a strong foundation in beginner Spanish. I really took to it in high school, remembered pretty much all of it, took a year in college and tried using the language as I traveled through South & Central America. My level would be A1- A2according to assessment tests I’ve tried. Also recently went through Language Transfer from start to finish two times. Felt like everything up to about mid 40s was stuff I definitely already knew, and from there u til 90 I was definitely learning some new stride. Duolingo current streak is about 1400 and I’m one of the few people (seemingly) that would say “yes” I’ve actually learned stuff from there over the years. But I think that’s BECAUSE I already had a decent understanding of the basics. Nonetheless, I can credit some vocabulary to that app. I’ve played countless Spanish YouTube videos on our bedroom tv (including some DS) while I slept for a couple years.
This put me at about 300 for starting on DS.
Finally, here is my question: I hear great things about Dreaming Spanish. And I feel like it’s a logical next move for me. Although, the beginner videos are definitely too easy. The intermediate videos are definitely a struggle to actually stay on topic because there’s so much I don’t know. Advanced is definitely the sweet spot for me, but even that at times feels a little too familiar. So I’m just not fully understanding how - solely using this Resource- someone is supposed to get from advance to intermediate because no matter how many times I watch the intermediate videos. I still don’t understand the same words that I didn’t the time before, and the time before that. So I’ve started to write things down, translate things and put on the English subtitles. This makes 15 minute videos Take 30 to 40 minutes - but without this activity I’m not learning anything more than I knew When I Started because it’s still the same words that I didn’t know before, and I don’t know now, in the intermediate videos. How are people advancing their understanding of the language by just moving through beginner, advanced, intermediate… Videos? Where Does the actual Learning come in? Especially if you’re listening to it in the car or a place where you can’t read the closed caption.? I want to love dreaming Spanish, I want to learn as much as I possibly can from dreaming Spanish, and this seems like the logical next move… I’m just struggling with how to use the resource effectively. Any suggestions are very welcome. Thank u
