While only TM Opera O and Zenno Rob Roy have won the Senior Autumn Triple Crown, Meisho Doto and Rulership actually managed to finish 2nd and 3rd in all 3 races respectively.
The Autumn Triple Crown involves winning the Autumn Tenno Sho, Japan Cup, and Arima Kinen in the same year
You could say that Meisho Doto and Rulership are the Autumn Silver and Bronze Crown champions. Doto was runner-up to Opera in all three races in 2000. They say since Doto finished 2nd to Opera in 5 successive G1s while Doto only saw one demon ahead of him, all the other racers saw two.
Rulership on the other hand also had some tough competition in 2012, finishing 3rd behind:
- Eishin Flash and Fenomeno in the Autumn Tenno Sho
- Gentildonna and Orfevre in the Japan Cup
- Gold Ship and Ocean blue (another son of Stay Gold) in the Arima Kinen
Some other things:
- Stay Gold ran the Autumn Triple Crown races in 3 successive years. He would have run a 4th time however he retired after winning the Hong Kong Vase and did not run the 2001 Arima Kinen.
- Air Groove, Rulership's mother, finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each race during the 1997 series. Other horses to finish 1st to 3rd in each race include:
| Horse | Year | Autumn Tenno Sho | Japan Cup | Arima Kinen |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Symboli Rudolf | 1985 | 2nd | 1st | 1st |
| Oguri Cap | 1988 | 2nd | 3rd | 1st |
| Tamamo Cross | 1988 | 1st | 2nd | 2nd |
| Special Week | 1999 | 1st | 1st | 2nd |
| Symboli Kris S | 2002 & 2003 (same results both years) | 1st | 3rd | 1st |
| Buena Vista | 2010 | 1st | 2nd (demoted from 1st) | 2nd |
| Kitasan Black | 2017 | 1st | 3rd | 1st |
Special Week actually finished 2nd by a nose to Grass Wonder in the 1999 Arima Kinen preventing them from achieving the feat in their last race. The 3rd place horse in that same race was TM Opera O who would accomplish the feat the very next year.
Zenno Rob Roy also finished 3rd behind Symboli Kris S in the 2003 Arima Kinen before their Autumn Triple Crown too.
