I'm new to this franchise, I'm super into the X games right now, but as I've gotten into it and checked out the online discourse and videos about the X series and the wider franchise, it's extremely weird to me how... English-centric(?) the fan base seems to be. Maybe it's just because I've been a Sonic fan most of my life so I'm used to shifting terminology (Mega Drive VS Genesis, Eggman VS Robotnik), but from what I've seen, I haven't encountered ANY series fans who refer to it as Rockman. Nobody calls Mavericks Irregulars, no one calls Vile Vava, it's so strange to me, especially when (SUBJECTIVELY) the original Japanese terms and names are so much cooler than what the American localization teams came up with.
I totally understand these are the names people grew up with, and it's the names most of the rest of the western fan base accepts- I still see this happen with millennial Sonic fans ADAMANTLY calling every version of Eggman Robotnik and calling the series' planet Mobius while ignoring the original terms- but it's so very bizarre to me. Like I said, I'm new, so maybe I'm only seeing a teeny tiny fraction of fans and it's more common for the real names to be used deeper in the fan base. I will admit I do have a semi-ironic soft spot for some localization choices like Duff McWhalen and the godawful English dubs of the games that have voice acting tho.
