Hedge Fund Calculations

Can someone explain why Year-end AuM's gross returns year to year are calculated with after fee AuMs?

My calculations would go as following:

Yr1: 100 * 1.2 = 120
Yr2: 120 * (1-0.15) = 102
Yr3: 102 * 1.15 and so on, while here the annual gross return is calculated after fees? Im gonna go crazy.

Stuck at 70% Mock Scores and not improving

I took my first mock 2 weeks before the exam, now I have 5 days left. I revised quite extensively for them but still stuck with the same scores and not seem to be improving. With the days left for me, what would be your strategy?

(74%) Mock 1 CFAI
(70.56%) Mock 1 Kaplan
(70.56%) Mock 2 Kaplan
(72%) Mock 3 Kaplan
(65%) Mock 4 Kaplan

I know these are not particularly bad scores, but right on the edge. Thing that's worrying me is that they're not improving. Ethics avg is 75-85%. Any advice or previous experience is appreciated. Good luck everyone.

Calculator beset before exam?

I have my CFA L1 exam in a couple days and I read somewhere that they might reset my calculator? I am so used to it already and had changed settings way back in time with what I found to be best from youtube. Now I read that it will be reset? What does it mean? what setting will I need to re-do etc? Its stressing me out.

If you did Kaplan mocks or Qbanks (CFA Level 1) you know there are videos explaining the question. Most of them have from what I noticed 4 different voices explaining the question and the answer. For reference I'll also include question number corresponding to the person from Mock 1 of Kaplan

Who do you think it the best. My ranking is as follows.

  1. [QS-43] :Older lady. (I think she's not from states perhaps a brit as well. I'd pay so much to get all the content explained by her, best I've ever seen)
  2. [QS-57]Middle aged English/Irish/Scottish man.
  3. [QS-37] Younger Brit lady. (Average not bad)
  4. [QS-1] Older American dude (I hate him sorry, jumps straight into answer, makes a lot of assumptions that we already know the reason, and just no depth to explanation)

(NOT INTERNSHIP) I am starting my new job next week at a boutique Sales & Trading firm for Fixed Income for a specific geo-market. Basically a bond broker. Before going into it I'd really appreciate if people who did this share some of their experiences, what to do and not do, any trading floor unspoken rules, I worked at an insurance corporate before this for 2 years, and I can imagine the environment is very different. What would be good to know before going into my new gig, perhaps I'll learn a lot by doing mistakes and on the job, but maybe you have something that "I wish someone told me before" things?

Im doing my level 1 soon. Can I bring my nicotine pouches to the exam and rip it during the exam? If not, can I have a ciggie on the break at least? Also any other rules to be aware?

I am contemplating buying the CFAI Practice Pack which includes 5 extra mocks, I have 9 days left and currently I wake up do the mock and revise afterwards, I have two mocks left. one from Kaplan and one from CFA.

1.CFAI Mock 1: 74%
2.Kaplan Mock 1: 70%
3.Kaplan Mock 2: 70
4. Kaplan Mock 4: 65%

I have Kaplan mock 3 and cfa mock 2 left. Should I spend 300USD to get five extra mocks? Are they good, too difficult, worth it?

I've noticed during the mock exams that I become sleepy and lose concentration after doing 30 questions of ethics at the very beginning of the mock, after that my sharpness kinda falls. If the exam is like mock and starts with Ethics, should I do the ethics after i did other topics during sesison 1? has anyone experimented with this?

Hi All, I have 9 days until the exam. I know a lot of mocks are posted here so apologies for another one. I am very stressed, I know my scores are not bad however I do not seem to be improving after revision of mistakes, do I push through or any strategies? perhaps buying premium mocks?

Mock 1 CFAI : 74%
Mock 2 Kaplan 70.56%
Mock 3 Kaplan 70.56%

For the Mock 3 kaplan I felt so good in the first session and screwed the second session badly. Kaplan feels harder.

Also one question is on score dispersions, I dont seem to be average 70% on all topics but rather a jump from topic to topic which makes me more anxious. For e.g. portfolio management first kaplan mock is 94% and second one 61%. Especially for second kaplan mock my scores fluctuated a lot across topics. Any tips appreciated.
