Hi all,

I recently went through the Ophthalmology ST1 application process and ranked extremely highly nationally. I’m considering putting together some resources/support for future applicants, but wanted to gauge whether there would actually be interest before spending time building anything.

When I was preparing, I found that there was a lot of information out there, but it was often scattered and hard to know what actually mattered for scoring well.

I’m thinking about creating something practical for aspiring ophthalmology applicants, potentially including:

- a “how I approached the ST1 application” guide

- portfolio strategy and evidence folder tips

- common mistakes people make with evidence

- interview preparation frameworks for both clinical and communication station

- optional 1:1 portfolio reviews

- optional mock interview / feedback sessions

- possibly an ophthalmology education publication platform where students/junior doctors can submit educational articles, QI summaries, case-based learning, reflections, etc.

The publication platform would be transparent: editorially reviewed, not pretending to be PubMed-indexed or formal peer-reviewed unless it genuinely became that in future. The aim would be to create a credible space for ophthalmology-related educational output, not to guarantee portfolio points. I have spoken to some of my seniors/consultants who would be keen to supervise this process and act as reviewers too to make this more formal.

I'm just trying to assess if this is something that people would actually find useful or not.

Would people be interested in any of the following?

  1. A practical portfolio/interview guide from a recent high-ranking applicant
  2. 1:1 portfolio review before evidence upload
  3. Mock interview practice with structured feedback
  4. A live webinar/Q&A on how to approach the application
  5. An ophthalmology education publication platform for applicants

What would make this feel genuinely useful rather than just another generic interview course?

Would appreciate honest feedback - especially from people planning on applying in 2027 or later!

Thanks guys!
