Can I claim my father's unclaimed money
Sorry for the long post!
I don't know how to go about this or even if I can do anything about.
My father passed in the late 90s. There was a simple will, where everything just went to his spouse at death. Who in turn when she passed she left everything to her children, only one of those children was my sibling.
They owned 3 homes at time of his passing. And had a significant amount of money!
His wife had sent me some papers to sign saying I had no claim. I never signed them. I truly didn't care about not receiving anything when he passed, I understand she had to live too.
Well it has been found by me, my father has unclaimed money. I called the place that had the money originally before sent to state. It was a attorney's office in another state from where he actually lived. I know he had a couple lawsuits for asbestos, and I'm assuming this is related to that.
Since his wife was executor and she has since passed, am I able to try and claim this?
I am the oldest between my sister and myself. We are his only kids.
I understand if I am able to claim my sister will get some too.
