Ok Reddit you are my last hope! I bought a John Deere js40 pushmower to repair. Seller said he ran it last year and hasn’t used since. It has no spark plug when I bought it. I have changed the carburetor,cleaned fuel tank and checked spark. Will only try to start sometimes and runs very weak even at full throttle then dies. I’ve checked the flywheel key to ensure it’s not sheared. I’ve checked the gas line too to make sure it’s not clogged. Has 65 compression. Even with starting fluid it will only try to start sometimes and runs very week. I also made sure the needle and float wasn’t stuck in aftermarket carburetor. Please help!!! If I can not find a solution here I will cut my losses and take it to the trash. Any suggestions are welcome and I will answer any questions.

I need some help here. I repair small engines on the side but this 1 has me beat. I was given a 2hp/10” Murray tiller. I can’t not get this thing to even hit on starting fluid. I’ve done everything I can think of. Checked for spark with a spark tester and it was good and even tried a new plug. Have cleaned the carb and the gas tank and removed old air filter. I’ve even compression tested it and it came back with just under 90psi. Surely that would be enough?I am so confused by this. It’s getting spark and still won’t even hit? What do I do next besides throw this in the dumpster. Please help
